Among the many waterfalls of Karnataka, Kalhatti Falls is
one of the spectacular waterfalls and most picturesque tourist destinations of
Karnataka. Kalhatti Falls is also known as Kalahasti Falls. It is located at just
10 kms from very famous hill station Kemmangundi at Kallattipura village in
Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. It offers you a wonderful view of the water
falls from 122 meters height of the Chandra Drona Hill
Kalhatti Falls is a perfect retreat from the busy city life
and it is one of the must visit tourist spots in Karnataka. It was also a
summer retreat of then Mysore Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV.
The Veerabhadreshwara Temple is also situated in front which
is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is with three stone carvings of three
elephants at the entrance. Water cascade water over these elephants and
devotees believes that these waters have the power to cure diseases. An annual
fair of Lord Veerabhadra is held here for three days during March/April which
attracts pilgrims from many parts of the state.
Best time to visit here is from September to May. If you are

How to Reach Kalhatti Giri Waterfalls
By Road
Birur in Chikkamangalur is the nearest station to the
waterfalls. Birur is well connected to Bangalore and other places via Road.
Bangalore is 245 km from Kalahtta Giri waterfalls and Mangalore is 150 km.
By Rail
Nearest railway station is Birur. From Birur one can hire a
taxi or auto rickshaw as it takes 30 mins. Birur is connected to Shimoga,
Bangalore etc. by train.
