The small state of India is situated in the lap of Himalaya, Sikkim, which is called 'East of Switzerland'. Yuksom:
It was the first capital of Sikkim. It is said that Sikkim's first great ruler had purified Yuksom from three scholars of Lama in 1641. There is also a base camp for the climbing of famous Mount Kanchenjunga.
Tsomgo Lake:
The lake is situated in the East Sikkim; 35 km away from Gangtok. This lake is one kilometer long. The locals consider it to be very sacred. The lake becomes very beautiful between May and August. Rare flowers can be seen in the Tsomgo lake. There are many species of aquatic creatures and birds in the lake. This place is also known for Red Panda. In winter the lake water gets freezed. This is the perfect place for summer holidays.
Nathul La Pass:
At the height of 14,200 feet, Nathu La Pass is situated on the Indo-China border. This journey is a pleasure giving experience in itself. This path is wonderful, with haze-covered hills, crooked paths and fountains flowing through the mountains. Tourists should have a permit to go to this place.
Pelling:
Pelling is becoming increasingly popular tourist destination. Located at an altitude of 6,800 feet. It is the nearest place to see the world's third highest peak Mount properly. Pelling is very beautiful location. Some important places of interest of Peeling: Chowring Monastery, Pemayangtse Monastery and Khecheopalri Lake etc.
Rumtek Monastery:
This grand monastery is one of the well-known tourist spots of Sikkim. The monastery looks unique in art. The Golden Stupa is the most important part of this monastery.
Do-drul Chorten:
It was built in 1945 by Trulshik Rinpoche, head of the Nyingma order of Buddhism. It is one of Sikkim's most beautiful stupas. There are 108 prayer wheels here. It has several Mandla sets, a set of residues and some religious materials. There are also statues of Buddhist Gurus.
The right time to visit Sikkim:
April and May are good for visiting this mountain climbing state. This is the time of the year when the shade of orchid and rhododendron rises across the hill.
